I just found this clip in my drive.....One of my favorite guitarists the great Joe Diorio! Enjoy!
I had one open counseling meeting with him..He was Really Kind and Great person as well as a Great Player...Thank You Joe
Let's talk about solo guitar today... after a minute of Jeff Berlin noodling on his bass. Never the less, Joe is killing when he get's going...
yeah man !
After around one hour 15 min mark and on who is the person yelling in the background?
❤
His notes have a percussive quality like a Fender Rhodes....
I see Joe was sweeping before Frank Gamble.... : )
Always loved Charlie Byrds approach .. great video , thanks 👍
Beautiful playing at the beginning of this video
Thanks for listening
Excellent, tout simplement ! A voir et à revoir en boucle.
Wooooo…next level. Technique, feel, ideas, concepts, musicality…sublime Such a nice musical experience that literally unfolds before our eyes and ears Just wow!
Well said!
Amazing to be able to see that today. Thanks for sharing❤
You are so welcome
Such nice tone from a beautiful instrument.
Many thanks!
Sadly I am locking my hearing attention on those beyond annoying coughs, thus, it is very hard to concentrate on his teachings. I will never understand WHY some people tend to be believe they are wanted in a place when they can't control their coughing. If you are coughing ... STAY HOME! do not attempt to ruin it for everybody by coughing amidst a presentation!
Diorio can be so beautiful But when he teaches it’s usually just histrionics that’s not beautiful at all. And he never explains anything clearly. Rest in peace Joe.
I wasn't hip to Joe ..... What a creative player!!!!
Is this the best guitar playing ever ?
one of them!!
I see he is using a unwound 3rd , what was his string gauge ?
I emailed him many years ago and he told me he used a custom set. its basically like a set of .009's but he would replace the 1st string with a .011 if I recall correctly
@@ES175jazz interesting, thanks
Possibly the greatest intro to a video in world history
There's some pretty slick production values on display..
Lol
Man. What a great player.
Yo Joe? I gotta broken leg
A masterclass by him. That's such a gift
GOLD!
It's a pity this video/ DVD is out of print - I can't find it used anywhere. It's nice to be able to watch it here; but I would like to get the booklet that came with it (either in a hard copy or electronic form).
Incredible man! Wow!!
dearest teacher I remember when I shook your hand .. we all miss you very much 😢
Wow! I have just stumbled upon this amazing video and your channel! I have been on a Lenny Breau tear lately and have watched and listened to anything and everything i can find. This one is pure gold as is your channel. Thank you so much and Happy New Year! 🎉 Subscribed!
Awesome! Thank you!
Fantastic lesson!
One of my all time favorite guitar players. This is so amazingly simple the way Joe explains it, seems within reach but of course difficult to achieve. Very helpful!
Thanks Joe, for you books! You were an awesome player and teacher.
Muchas gracias.
❤
Guy was totally unique. Love him.
Just great... very informative
Glad you think so!
❤
Geniuses are usually not the best teachers, but man are they fun to watch
great comment!
Gene e i...
I was thinking the same. He’s not the best teacher but I did manage to get something from this video.
I was on a sailboat in the Caribbean with a guy who had just been released from a mental institution. One night we were sitting in the cockpit of his sailboat playing guitars. I’ve never seen this guy before. I think I played Freight Train. He played it every note harmonics. This is 30 years ago. I don’t know when Lenny Bro invented this stuff but if it wasn’t 30 years ago, he didn’t invent it.
Harmonics are over 500 years old on the guitar. He didn't invent it he just utilized them to the max.
Lenny Breau died in a murder in 1984 and had a long music career before his death; so he certainly was before your guy 30 years ago.
I'm so glad this is on the internet. Thanks Charlie!
Big master !!
Is the opening tune My Romance?
Nevermind lol, he said it
And(sorry)obviously thanks one million to who have posted this. 🖤
This man should've had a valid gun license. R.I.P. and thank you, Joe. You were and you'll forever be a gift.
Great lesson , thanks , by the way, is your guitar a Guild aristocrat ?
Joe was a true bad ass. And a nice guy.
Good job . bravo
Wow this is so cool can I purchase the guitar tabs please 🙏
3:00:00 Melody Explanation
Joe, so glad I knew you in person.
Lenny was amazing. He is never considered or ever mentioned on the supposed best all time guitarist lists. None of the big youtube guitar gurus ever make mention of him. Especially the biggest name on youtube. But those who know guitar and appreciate the craft know who Lenny was. One of the best kept secrets hiding in plain sight.
That’s because Lenny was an academic player. Listen to his don’t think twice. who the hell wants to listen to that? It’s brilliant but you can’t dance to it. You can’t whistle it. You can’t hum it. It is interesting only to music theorists and guitarists. Ted Greene. Same deal. Most people want to listen to the music that was written, I’ll be it with embellishments. They don’t want to listen to something that uses what they want to listen to as just an ingredient, a stepping off place. That’s what made Chet Atkins so popular. He went about as far as you can go and still sell records. And that is not a dig. He was a brilliant player and arranger. Nothing sounded strange. The music came to you. It bathed you. You did not have to go to it. Your brow did not furrow. You smiled.
Some of us like it…a lot. I like pop music, but I also like music that takes real skill to make.
Maestro Joe Diorio sharing stories of Maestro Joe Pass over a cup of Joe is priceless. Although he was inspired by the great Art Tatum, I hear a lot of Jimmy Raney and Jim Hall in his playing. I will definitely just go for it from now on. This is a priceless video from one of the all-time greats! Thanks for sharing.
Your welcome!
